Warning: The originals photos, texts, films, music, etc ... of the period previous to 1921 year -see the Act of the US Congress about it - have no copyright and belong to the public domain. However, those same pictures, I process this blog, when I restore and paint the pictures, then the right of modification is produced, ie that are protected by full copyright law, in this case mine. Of course there are many more laws in the world, declared in the public domain photographs (which is the topic at hand), in very later dates to the aforementioned (Example: WWII, Korea, etc ...) .

  1. Hello Jose,

Wow! We independently noticed the same thing. A few years ago I saw the version of the photo seen on the bottom and was excited that I found one more photo of Henkart's Pipe armored car. But this photo looked a bit unnatural and later I saw the version you present on the top, with unarmored cars. I believe the version on the top is true. The soldiers in my opinion are British, not German. And I believe Pipe was not lost by the Belgians. The great mystery is who and why retouched this photo. What was the purpose? No idea. The Pipe was obviously copied from one of those photos: https://armoredcars-ww-one.blogspot.com/2011/08/pipe-armored-car-improvised-belgian-c.html

    Greetings,
    Albert

Hello Albert, indeed we both felt the same when we saw the image of the unmistakable Belgian armored car Pipe. First joy for having added graphic information about the Pipe, and then disappointment; due to the certainty that the photograph had been manipulated, altering its content, not without a certain 'mastery' on the part of the artist. Indeed the soldiers are British and the vehicles are German. The title of the magazine that I am going to add to the post says: Fighting both the Germans and Winter. I have a photo of the Pipe in Antwerp that I will upload to the blog these days.

      Regards,

      Jose Luis

      Saludos,

      José Luis

  2. Hello Jose,

I think I know this photo of Pipe that you mentioned, I've seen it in a book "Reizigers door de Grote Oorlog", if I remember correctly Pipe was photographed near a tram with some advertisements on it.

    Have a nice afernoon,
    Albert
