Proposal of profile for the Improvised Daimler-Ehrhardt 'Hybrid' Armored Car made in 1919 by a Reichwher Unit (Wheelbase Daimler: 3840-mm).

'Siegfried' Daimler-Ehrhardt Improvised Hybrid Armored Car M1919

I'll try to describe the characteristics of this very strange and unknown German armored car hybrid. Was performed from the merger of two combat vehicles who had previously fought in the Great War.

None of the German armored cars made in the immediate postwar meets these characteristics (1).

On the chassis of a Daimler-BaK Plattformwagen M1914 (used to carry a Krupp Flak 7.7-cm. cannon) semi-armored (the bonnet) and four-wheel drive (4x4) was coupled the armored superstructure of a Panzerkraftwagen Ehrhardt Typ E-V/4 Modell 1917.

The Daimler armored hood and the front armored superstructure of the Ehrhardt were coupled by welding both parties. The use of welding, bolts and rivets, coupled the armored superstructure of the Ehrhardt to the rest of Daimler-Bak chassis.

The front wheels and leaf springs shock absorbers were the original used in Daimler-BaK tractor. Although the engine cover remained the same as in Daimler, the original ventilation armored grilles of the motor (12 fixed grids in the Daimler-Bak) were replaced by the original of the Pz.Wg Kr. Ehrhardt M1917 (partially, because only the first six grids were used, of the nine he possessed the Ehrhardt). Are also adapted the outer rod of the Pz.Wg Kr Ehrhardt, that was allowing to open and to close, from the interior of the armored vehicle, the adapted armored grids.

Was placed between the end of the grids and the space immediately following, the Ehrhardt armored plate, used to protect the transmission of the vehicle. Over the hood, on the opposite side to the driver, a narrow headlight "Büssing type" was placed.

In the rear of the vehicle were maintained the double rear wheels of the original Daimler-Bak, covered by the surrounding armored mudguards of the Ehrhardt. These mudguard moved towards the back of the armored car, to coincide with the wheels of Daimler. Above them is written in white with semi-Gothic letters the name of the armored car: Siegfried .

On the side of the vehicle appreciated traces of glue and paper what appears to be a booted poster.
Immediately after, is painted in white a skull with crossbones, a different style to any other of those used at the time.

The frontal position of the peephole in the front of the turret reduces to very few ones, the probable squads (Zug) of those who might proceed the armored superstructure of the Panzerauto Ehrhardt.

The only news about this extremely rare armored car, I obtained an interesting post edited by K-Flak on Landships: Siegfried Panzerwagen

In it, K-Flak provide certain data, together with those that I publish here, bring us closer to unravel, once described the characteristics of the Daimler-Ehrhardr Panzerauto, origin and the potential users of this unknown and rare German post-war armored car.

First, the soldier who appears in front of the open door of "Siegfried" seems to belong to the Reichswehr ...

 http://landships.activeboard.com/t48475163/panzerwagen-siegfried/
