Panzerauto Protos M1913. German Protos Armored Car M1913 

Single copy produced. In early 1914 it was sold to the Mexican government. In August of that same year was unloaded at the railway station of Buenavista in Mexico DF, being captured by the Zapatista troops. He never fought with the German army.

Único ejemplar producido. A principios de 1914 fue vendido al Gobierno Mexicano. En agosto de ese mismo año fue desembarcado en la estación de ferrocarriles de Buenavista en México D.F., siendo a continuación capturado por las tropas zapatistas. Nunca combatió con el ejército alemán.

British Recruitment Campaign

British recruitment campaign, which was used as claim a small Austin-Seven Armored Car (*). In the vehicle sides are encouraged to recruitment with the following proclamation:

Young Voluntary (**)
Wants you!
Do your duty Now!

(*) I do not know the date the photo was taken. It could have been made during the course of the Great War, or after it, eg in Ulster. With respect to the chassis on which it could be realized this armored "propaganda" car, no doubt it was the chassis of an Austin 7 horses. In principle it could be as much about an Austin 7-HP (Seven) model 1909 as a 1922 model Austin Seven.

Campaña británica de reclutamiento, en la que se utilizó como reclamo un pequeño Coche Blindado Austin-Seven (*). En los costados del vehículo se anima al reclutamiento con la siguiente proclama:

¡Cumple ahora con tu deber!

(*) Desconozco la fecha en que fue tomada la fotografía. Podría haber sido realizada durante el transcurso de la Gran Guerra, o posteriormente a ésta, por ejemplo en el Ulster. Con respecto al chasis sobre el que pudo ser realizado este coche blindado de "propaganda", no cabe duda de que se trataba del chasis de un Austin de 7 caballos. En principio podría tratarse tanto de un modelo Austin 7-HP (Seven - Siete) de 1909, como de un modelo Austin Seven de 1922.

(**) Esto es lo que he deducido que pone en este borroso primer reglón de la proclama.

''Titanic'' - Russian Pierce-Arrow Izhorsky Armored Car captured by the Germans. Riga (Latvia), July 3, 1919.

‘‘Titanic’’ Pierce-Arrow Izhorsky Armored Car

This Russian armored car (*) was captured by the Germans in October 1917, that they named “Titanic”. In November 1919, it was captured by the Latvians in Dobele city (southwest of Riga). It later served in the Latvian Army under the name of "Viesturs". The other Pierce-Arrow Izhorsky Armored Car was assigned to Berlin, where he appeared manned by the revolted sailors, during the Revolution of November 1918. In the picture, the German troops belonging to the "Baltische Landeswehr" during the withdrawal of the city of Riga (Latvia), in early July 1919.

In the center side of the armored car, is perceived a German iron cross, painted in black and without the typical white border. Also in black on the car door, is had written his name: “Titanic”. On the armored, it waves the white and blue flag of the "Baltische Landeswehr" [Baltic Territorial Army (mostly German)].

(*) Russian Pierce-Arrow "Marine" Armored Car. Only two units were built for the marine in the Izhorsky workshops of St. Petersburg, for mobile coastal defense. Originally armed with a mountain gun of 76-mm. M1904 and two Maxim machine guns in the rear of the vehicle.

‘‘Titanic’’ Coche Blindado Pierce-Arrow Izhorsky
Este vehículo blindado ruso (*) fue capturado en octubre de 1917 por los alemanes, quienes lo llamaron "Titanic". Posteriormente, en noviembre de 1919, fue capturado por los letones en la ciudad de Dobele (a unos 40 kms. al suroeste de Riga). Más tarde sirvió en el ejército de Letonia bajo el nombre de "Viesturs". El otro Coche Blindado Pierce-Arrow Izhorsky fue enviado a Berlín, donde apareció tripulado por los marineros sublevados, durante la revolución de noviembre de 1918. En la imagen aparecen las tropas alemanas pertenecientes al "Baltische Landeswehr" durante la retirada de la ciudad de Riga (Letonia), a principios de julio 1919.

En la parte central lateral del coche blindado, se percibe una cruz de hierro alemana, pintada en negro pero sin el característico reborde blanco. También en negro, en la puerta del vehículo, se había escrito su nombre: "Titanic". En el coche blindado ondea la bandera blanca y azul del "Baltische Landeswehr" [Ejército Territorial Báltico (en su mayoría compuesto y comandado por alemanes)].

(*)  Coche Blindado Ruso de la Marina Pierce-Arrow  Izhorsky. Sólo dos unidades fueron construidas para la Marina en los talleres Izhorsky de San Petersburgo, concebidos para la defensa costera móvil. Originalmente armado con un cañón de montaña de 76-mm. M1904 y dos ametralladoras Maxim, situadas en la parte posterior del vehículo.
